Pierre Perron, capo di Sony Mobile Europe, è stato recentemente intervistato riguardo ad un futuro con Windows Phone, infatti un accordo con Microsoft è argomento di rumor da tempo.
Ecco come ha risposto Perron:
We don’t want to be a single OS manufacturer, I don’t think it’s a viable position in the long term, We are continuing our discussions with other partners, including Microsoft, as part of our partnership with this company on the broader Sony spectrum.
Sembra quindi chiaro che Sony non abbandonerà Android, ma probabilmente aggiungerà alcuni terminali Windows Phone alla sua gamma di prodotti. Quando poi è stata chiesta un opinione su Android – e su Google, indirettamente – questa è stata la risposta di Perron:
We enjoy very much a good collaboration with Google, we’ve been working with them for a long time and have a level of maturity with that discussion, that’s good. But at the same time, Google has a relationship with direct competitors.
Il problema di Android sarebbe quindi la concorrenza: Google ha accordi con praticamente tutti i produttori di smartphone per la produzione di device Android, e una di questi è un colosso, Samsung. Se Sony puntasse su Windows Phone avrebbe come competitor reale solo Nokia: ma per superare Nokia – che per altro è di Microsoft – Sony dovrebbe puntare alla gamma alta Windows Phone, con un device di punta. Alcuni rumor vorrebbero già in produzione alcuni di questi device, ma solo per alcuni test: in ogni caso, Perron non ha parlato di date di uscita di device Sony con Windows Phone.
